| 1. | Choose the field type according to what it must be read and to the following characteristics:
| OMR Field
| Optical Mark Recognition: it allows to recognize the check-boxes also called mark-sense. See OMR command from Fields menu.

| Optical Character Recognition:it allows to recognize machine-written characters of about all fonts. See OCR command from Fields menu.
| OCR-A/B Field
| Optical Character Recognition for font OCR-A and OCR-B: it is good to recognize exclusively standard OCR-A/B codelines common in postal and banking forms.See OCR-A/B command from Fields menu.
| ICR Field
| Intelligent Character Recognition: intelligent characters recognition of handwritten capital text. It is used to read hand-written and printed characters both strained into boxes (or characters written on forms with apposite boxes that enable the separation of the characters without touching each other) and unconstrained one. See ICR command from Fields menu.
| CHR Field

| 2. | Use the Add command from the Fields menu or to draw a rectangle on the form around the reading area using the mouse. To reside or move the field are you can also use the mouse after selecting the Selection command from Fields menu . The rocognition are should include only the zone where data is written, with minimal margin, avoiding that noise or other fields data could produce interferences in recognition; but if you get problems with form alignment you can try to use a larger are to be sure that data to be recognized be in the defined area. Some field properties, as position and size, are displayed in the box at left side of the form and can be modified directly by writing the values in the textboxes and by confirming with the Enter key. Usually the field Description property should be changed becouse Field 1, Field 2, etc....are the not meaning names set by default.
| 3. | For each inserted field, using the Processing command from Fields menu, it is possible to specify the parameters of processing through the following dialogs, each specific for a field type:
| BarCode Parameters
| OCR Parameters
| OCR-A/B Parameters
| Keying Parameters
| Export Parameters
| OMR Parameters
| ICR Parameters
| CHR Parameters
| To get better results you should use parameters as restrictive as possible. For example, if you need to recognize a numeric handwritten data you should set this kind of restriction and not use alphanumeric.
| 4. | Use the Pre-Processing command from Fields menu to show the Pre-Processing Parameters dialog allowing to set pre-processing parameters on the recognition area. This operation is very important becouse a good setting can improve recognition result as well as a bad setting can compromise the result.
| 5 | Use the Post-Processing command from Fields menu to show the Post-Processing Parameters dialog. allowing to set the processing on recognized data. Also this operation is very important becouse allow you to normalize the results.
| 5. | If it must been inserted the same field more than once by changing just the position, it is possible to insert it just once, setting up all the characteristics, then using the copy and paste commands a number of times so as to clone it; then using mouse to move into the chosen position.
